    Stopping plaquenil before pregnancy

So far I have no more energy than when I first started and has developed neuropathy which I have just found out from Web MD that this neuropathy is one of the side effects of this med! Saying that by stopping this it would take another 6 months to build up the benefit. There are other meds that can help with what you are experiencing, and if your doctor didn't address that then I would seek out a second opinion... Please don't stop your plaquenil until you are sure it is the right thing to do and in your best interest.

According to the American College of Rheumatology, hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil, is a “disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD,” meaning that it helps reduce the pain and swelling that come with arthritis. It can also reduce the incidence of joint damage, thus lessening the risk of developing a long-term disability from complications of RA. Individuals break down medicines at different rates. On average it would take over 8 months for all the hydroxychloroquine to be gone from a person’s body. Some women may choose to stop taking this medication before becoming pregnant; however, it’s important not to stop any medications before talking with a health care provider. Some drugs need to be stopped months before trying to become pregnant. Be sure to speak with you physician well in advance if you intend to become pregnant. Hydroxychloroquine is one medication that could and should be continued if taken prior to pregnancy as it has been shown to contribute to better pregnancy outcomes for women with SLE.

Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. Or maybe another doctor if you're not comfortable w/your current one.
