ABSTRACT. Chronic urticaria has been explored in several investigative aspects in the new millennium, either as to its pathogenesis, its stand as an autoimmune or auto-reactive disease, the correlation with HLA-linked genetic factors, especially with class II or its interrelation with the coagulation and fibrinolysis systems. I spent the evening in the ER with hives. The ER doctor thinks that it is the plaquenil causing the hives. When I got home I googled plaquenil allergy and I found some pics of hives from plaquenil and that's exactly what my hives look like. Chronic idiopathic urticaria CIU is the medical term for someone who has hives for six weeks or more with no known underlying cause. Symptoms can come and go for months or even years.

Malaria is common in areas such as Africa, South America, and Southern Asia. Plaquenil is used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites that enter the body through the bite of a mosquito.

A 1-year follow-up study has shown efficacy of CsA in treatment of autoimmune urticaria, even in low doses 1.5-2.5 mg/kg/day given over 5 months. The main side effects occurring with CsA are renal damage which may be reversible on stopping medications and hypertension. With Plaquenil, however, the most commonly prescribed anti-malarial, this sort of damage occurs only in 1 out of 5,000 people who take the drug for five years or more. For this reason though, it is important that you see an ophthalmologist for an exam before starting to take an anti-malarial medication for your lupus. Urticaria is also known as hives. Autoimmune Disorders and Urticaria. According to the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology, about half the cases of chronic idiopathic hives are due to immune systems that attack the body’s own tissues also known as autoimmunity.

Plaquenil Arthritis Information After a month and a half-and being very depressed-actually ready to jump out a window--no kidding--I stopped the plaquenil--cold turkey. The bad dreams stopped, I was sleeping again, still have some stomach problems. I don't know why--I go see the RA MD tomorrow and I am sure we will discuss this. I will not take plaquenil ever again.
