    Plaquenil and cholesterol

I know I had never heard of it until my rheumatologist said that is what I have...along w/osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. My blood tests are negative for RF but my CRP test was above normal. Ai Yi Yi Plaquenil reduces inflammation in many Rheumatic disorders, the mode of action is pretty complicated though so I shan't bore you with all the details, but basically it prevents your dendritic cells (these are messengers for your immune system, if you will) from interacting with your T-Cells (a special type of white blood cell which through a convoluted and boring process, causes inflammation when an infection is found, and these basically malfunction with inflammatory disorders). So, he started me on 400 mg of Plaquenil a day and he just upped it to 600 mg a day. As I said previously, my Rheumatologist now says it is inflammatory osteoarthrits. Why am I taking Plaquenil, which does help tremedously BTW, if I don't have RA or Lupus. This "dendritic deactivation" (I made that phrase up) helps reduce your immune system being silly and inflaming your joints.

May 21, 2012 plaquenil, high cholesterol, trigeminal neuralgia, fibromyalgia, simvastatin I am on many medications but I have already had a bad side effect on 20 mg of Simvastatin and the doctor wants to try Atorvastatin but I was put on Plaquenil and I know I shouldn't take the two due to Peripheral Neuropathy problems that can occur and I have a history.

My sister was dx'd with Inflammatory Arthritis and Plaquenil sent her into remission some years ago now. I also take meds for high bp, asthma and high cholesterol.

  6. Plaque forms when cholesterol lodges in the wall of the artery. To fight back, the body sends white blood cells to trap the cholesterol, which then turn into foamy cells that ooze more fat and cause more inflammation. That triggers muscle cells in the artery wall to multiply and form a cap over the area.

Mar 07, 2015 Hydroxychloroquine, brand name Plaquenil, is a time-tested and often-used medication that is typically a first line of defense in the treatment of autoimmune conditions such as RA and lupus. Antimalarials such as hydroxychloroquine HCQ, are among the oldest prescribed drugs still used in clinical practice. Relatively inexpensive and well tolerated, these drugs have been recognized to be effective in autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis RA and systemic lupus erythematosus SLE. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is considered a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD. It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis. It may prevent joint damage and reduce the risk of long-term disability. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of medications that was first used to prevent and treat malaria.
