I started with plaquenil last year, yes it took almost 6 months to get a level in your body, it does help, trust me. I was on Prednisone 7.5 to 10 mg per day, had a bad flair up and I am on 40 mg per day, last Friday the dr.''s told me to go down by 5 mg per week, so from 40mg to 35 mg per day. What Is Plaquenil? Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial medication used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites, which enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Plaquenil is also used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. Plaquenil is available in generic form. Transplant rejection, mycophenolate mofetil CellCept® is prescribed for a number of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis and lupus nephritis. Anecdotal reports have shown it to be effective in treating sarcoidosis. The principal adverse reactions associated with the administration of mycophenolate mofetil.

There’s no cure for arthritis, which is unfortunate, but feeling better is definitely possible. Joint damage worries and aching hands are no fun, and if you’re experiencing those kinds of problems because of rheumatoid arthritis you may have options that can help you feel better.

Hi, I have been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I am 25 & am on Prednisone60mg,salasapyrin500mg& Plaquenil200mg per day. I have developed a large moon shaped face. I am swollen in the face & neck & hate what it is doing to my face. Will this swelling & fluid go away when I come off the steroids in five weeks? Hydroxychloroquine along with 30 mg of Prednisone worked for me within 3 months and did a great job. However I had a side reaction- hallucination, so I came off the drug. Plaquenil did not work as well for me,it took about 10 weeks before I saw some effect but again I had a reaction- my fatigue got even worse and I could not stay awake. I was diagnosed with Giant Cell Arteritis almost 2 years ago and have not been able to take less than 8 mg. of prednisone without severe headaches returning. My doctor has suggested trying Cellcept in conjunction with the prednisone and then eventually decreasing the prednisone until I no longer take it at all.
